What an SR-22 actually is
An SR-22 is not insurance. It is a certificate your insurance company files with the California DMV confirming that you carry at least the state-required liability coverage. The policy does the protecting; the SR-22 just proves to the state that the policy exists.
Why one gets ordered
It usually follows a DUI conviction, driving without insurance, an at-fault accident while uninsured, too many points in a short window, or a license reinstatement. Your notice from the court or the DMV states the reason and the term.
What to do first
Get the coverage in place. The filing cannot exist without a qualifying policy underneath it. Bring the notice to the Bloomington office and Monge will read it with you and quote the policy the filing has to sit on.
The mistake that costs the most
Letting the policy lapse. A lapse is reported to the DMV and can restart the clock or suspend the license again. Set the policy to autopay and keep the reminders on.
Get it handled in one stop
Monge quotes auto insurance across multiple carriers and handles the vehicle paperwork at the same Bloomington counter. Start with the online quote form, call (909) 440-5999, or see SR-22 Insurance Help. Help is available in English and español.
